About Us

Who we are

DVLA Check Code is an independent information site built to help UK drivers, employers, hire companies, and licensing officers understand and use the DVLA’s driving licence check code service correctly and confidently.

We are not DVLA, GOV.UK, or any other government body, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to either in any way. We’re an independent publisher providing clear, practical guidance on a process that many people find confusing the first time they encounter it.

Why we built this

The check code process replaced the old paper counterpart licence in 2015, and while GOV.UK’s own service works well, official guidance is often written in general terms that don’t cover the specific situations people actually run into: a code that’s mysteriously stopped working, confusion between a DVLA check code and a completely different Home Office share code, or knowing exactly what a taxi licensing council needs before submitting an application.

We built this site to fill that gap: real answers to the specific questions people search for, sourced directly from GOV.UK’s own guidance, kept up to date, and written in plain English.

Our approach

  • We source facts directly from GOV.UK. Every process detail, validity period, and requirement on this site is checked against official government guidance, not guessed at or copied from other unofficial sources.
  • We update this content regularly. DVLA’s processes can and do change, and we recheck our guidance periodically to keep it accurate.
  • We’re upfront about what we are. This is an independent, ad-supported information resource. It is not a substitute for GOV.UK, and we always link through to the official service for anything that requires you to actually enter personal information.
